-
Any meals or activities not listed on the final itinerary.
What kind of hotels will we stay in?
Students and adults will stay in quality, tourist-class hotels in both Washington, D.C., and New York City. Hotels are chosen for safety, comfort, and location. Each property provides:
-
24-hour front desk service.
-
Night security staff dedicated to student groups.
-
Comfortable rooms with private bathrooms.
-
Daily hot breakfast service.
Students typically share rooms with 3–4 travelers of the same gender. Adults and chaperones are usually placed two per room.
How does rooming work?
Rooming assignments will be arranged by the school or tour organizer. Students will be asked to list roommate preferences in advance, and every effort is made to honor those requests. Adults traveling as chaperones are generally in double occupancy rooms, with the option to request a single room at an additional cost (subject to availability).
Who supervises the students?
In addition to teacher and parent chaperones, a professional tour director will accompany the group at all times. The director manages logistics, ensures the itinerary runs smoothly, and supports both students and staff. At the hotels, night security guards are stationed on each floor occupied by the group to ensure safety and quiet overnight.
What about meals?
All meals are included. Breakfasts are served at the hotel and typically include hot and cold options. Lunches are either at a sit-down restaurant, a food court, or a boxed meal, depending on the schedule. Dinners are at family-friendly restaurants with group seating. Vegetarian and special dietary needs can be accommodated with advance notice.
How much spending money should students bring?
We recommend about $10–$20 per day for snacks, souvenirs, or small personal purchases. Most attractions and meals are covered, so spending money is optional.
Is travel insurance available?
Yes, optional travel insurance is highly recommended. Policies typically cover trip cancellation, medical emergencies, and lost baggage. Information about purchasing insurance will be provided after registration.
What happens if my child gets sick or has an emergency on tour?
The tour director and chaperones are trained to handle emergencies. In case of illness or injury, local medical facilities will be used, and parents will be contacted immediately. Our staff is available 24/7 to provide assistance and support.
How much walking is involved?
Both Washington, D.C. and New York are walking-friendly cities. Students should be prepared to walk several miles per day, often in combination with motorcoach transportation. Comfortable shoes are essential.
What should students pack?
We recommend packing lightly but smartly. Essentials include:
-
Comfortable walking shoes.
-
Weather-appropriate clothing (June is warm and sometimes humid).
-
Refillable water bottle.
-
Small backpack or day bag.
-
Sunscreen and personal toiletries.
-
Government-issued photo ID for airport check-in.
-
Spending money in cash or prepaid card.
A detailed packing checklist will be provided closer to departure.
What documents are required?
For U.S. citizens, a government-issued photo ID (such as a school ID and birth certificate, or state-issued ID card) is sufficient for domestic air travel. Passports are not required unless the student is not a U.S. citizen. Please check with your tour organizer if you have specific documentation concerns.
Will students have free time?
Yes, but free time is always supervised. In places like Times Square or Central Park, students will be given time to explore in small groups with clear boundaries, under the oversight of chaperones and the tour director.
What attractions are included?
Highlights include the Lincoln Memorial, Ford’s Theatre, Arlington National Cemetery, the Smithsonian Museums, the U.S. Capitol, Times Square, the Empire State Building Observatory, the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the 9/11 Memorial, Central Park, Rockefeller Plaza, Fifth Avenue, and a Broadway performance.
Can parents join the tour?
Yes! Parents are welcome to travel as part of the group, pending space availability. The same tour price applies. Parents serve as additional chaperones and enjoy the full tour experience alongside the students.
When is payment due?
A deposit is required to secure a spot on the tour. Payment deadlines and installment options will be shared by the school or organizing company. Final payment is typically due 90 days before departure.
Is the cost refundable?
Refunds depend on the timeline and whether travel insurance was purchased. Without insurance, deposits and payments may be partially refundable up to certain dates, but not within the final weeks before departure. Full refund policies will be outlined in the registration materials.
Why should students go on this tour?
This journey combines history, culture, and real-world learning. Students will stand where history happened in Washington, D.C., and experience the cultural heartbeat of New York City.
